Kizumba Salsa Band was formed in 1990 by band leader Yamal Rima. Originally from Colombia, Yamal had a vision to bring modern salsa music, as well as music from the Caribbean, to Colorado.

After recruiting a group singer-dancers and a horn section from the University of Northern Colorado, Kizumba was ready to entertain. The band quickly became known for their high energy and fun performances, with choreographed dance moves, dancing horn players, powerful drum solos and ability to teach crowds dance moves. Kizumba plays a variety of music including salsa, merengue, reggaeton, zouk, soca and other Caribbean rhythms.

In the mid-1990s and early 2000s, Kizumba toured through the Department of Defense Armed Forces Entertainment Unit to entertain thousands of servicemen and women all over the world. Kizumba has shared the stage with international Latin artists including Oscar D'León, Monchy y Alexandra, Grupo Niche and others. Kizumba has played across Colorado at major festivals and events including the People's Fair, Cherry Creek Arts Festival, Cinco de Mayo Denver, Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest and many more. With 26 years’ experience of entertaining Colorado crowds, Kizumba has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
